In February of 2020 Black Desert Online introduced a new series of 3 quests for New and Returning players. Upon completion of each quest, you can choose between a Cliff’s Main Weapon (+15) Box, Cliff’s Sub-Weapon (+15) Box, or Cliff’s Awakening Weapon (+15) Box. Open the box to obtain a pre-enhanced +15 weapon suitable for the class you open the box with.
Quest Requirements:
- These quests are for New or Returning players only.
- New players are those who are 30 days (720 hours) or less from having first created their Family Name.
- Returning players are those who have not logged in for at least 30 days (720 hours).
- These quests are not available for accounts that have completed and earned Cliff’s weapons through previous event quests (Feb of 2019).
- The character you use to get the weapon must have completed the main Calpheon quest line. (Complete up to “Looking for Adventurers” in order to accept the Cliff’s weapon quests.)
Important Notes:
- Cliff’s Weapon quests can only be completed once per family/account.
- Open Quest Log (O key), New Quest tab to see the Cliff’s Weapon Box questlines. Use the Navigate button to autopath to the questgiver, Cliff, located in Western Guard Camp.
- Characters level 56+ will be offered a different series of 3 quests (Awakened Boss quests) than players 55 and lower. See charts below. All 3 quests can be accepted at the same time.
- Cliff’s weapons can be enhanced by you from PRI – TET. They are easier to enhance than standard weapons. PRI – TET enhanced Cliff’s weapons can be traded to Miguel, the Blacksmith at Western Guard Camp, for gold bars. See chart below for details.
-
Cliff’s Weapon box can be put in storage and opened on an Alt character. (Once the box is opened, you can NOT change the class type in order to use on a different class.)
- It’s possible to obtain 3 awakened weapons or 3 main hand, or any combination of 3 weapons.
Cliff
<Commander>
Cliff is the starting NPC for all of the Cliff’s Weapon quests.
Cliff is located in the starter town of Western Guard Camp, which is SW of Velia in Balenos territory.
Cliff’s Weapon Quests for Characters Level 55 and Below
The series of Cliff’s Weapon Box quests for levels 55 and below are much easier to complete than the Awakened Boss quests offered when your character is 56+. Simply kill X number of normal difficulty monsters in the 3 different SW Calpheon zones to complete the quests.
Cliff’s Weapon Quests for Characters Level 55 and Below | ||
---|---|---|
Quest | Objective | Reward |
Mission to Mansha Forest | Kill 150 Manshas |
Contribution EXP 50 Choose 1 Cliff’s (+15) Weapon Box |
Mission to Lake Kaia | Kill 100 Catfishmen | |
Mission to Hexe Sanctuary | Kill 100 Skeletons |
Cliff’s Weapon Quests for Characters Level 56 and Above
The Awakened Boss quests offered by Cliff when your character is 56+ have a party recommendation of 3+ players. The soloability of Awakened Bosses is really dependent on your class skill level, gear AP/DP, and knowledge of boss mechanics. If you are not an experienced player, I would recommend accepting Cliff’s Weapon quests before you reach level 56.
If you do attempt the awakened boss scrolls on your own and find they are too difficult for you, you can drop the quests and pick up the pre-56 quests on a lower level character who meets the quest requirements.

Cliff’s Mainhand Weapon Comparison
Are Cliff’s Weapons all that great? Let’s look at a comparison of TRI mainhand weapons, the boss favorite, Kzarka and the blue tier Liverto.
TRI Kzarka Staff
Accuracy: 184
Item Effects
● Extra AP Against Monsters: 6
● Casting Speed: +3
TRI Cliff’s Staff
Accuracy: 160
Item Effects
● Extra AP Against Monsters: 6
● Critical Hit: +3
TRI Liverto Staff
Accuracy: 162
Item Effects
● Extra AP Against Monsters: 6
● Critical Hit: +3
Cliff’s Weapon Benefits:
- Pre-enhanced to +15, saving silver
- Easier to enhance than other weapons
- Only 2 lower base AP than the Kzarka/Liverto
- Same item effects as the Liverto
Cliff’s Weapon Disadvantages:
- Lowest in Accuracy and base AP
- More similarities to blue tier Liverto than gold tier boss weapon
- Not strong enough to be considered a top-tier or end-game weapon
- Because Cliff’s is a gold tier weapon, repairing max durability is the same as Boss weapons and gear, using 1 Memory Fragment to repair 1 durability (5 durability if used with Artisan’s Memory)
- Can’t be enhanced to PEN and might be considered a waste of silver and materials to enhance Cliff’s past DUO
Conclusion:
The main advantage to Cliff’s Mainhand Weapon is it’s ease of acquiring and enhancing, using significantly less silver as it comes pre-enhanced to +15. This makes Cliff’s weapons highly appealing to new players or players that don’t have a lot of silver, failstacks, or enhancing materials. It is very similar to the Liverto and is a decent step up to eventually acquiring a top-tier boss weapon. I would reccommend using caution in deciding to enhance Cliff’s weapons past Duo/Tri as recovering max durability on gold tier weapons is more costly and defeats the main advantage of using a Cliff’s weapon in the first place.
Cliff’s Sub-Weapon Comparison
Are Cliff’s Weapons all that great? Let’s look at a comparison of TRI Sub-Weapons, the boss favorite for PVE, Kutum, and the green tier Steel Dagger.
TRI Kutum Dagger
DP: 10
Accuracy: 11
Evasion: 9 (+27)
Damage Reduction: 6
Item Effects
● Ignore All Resistance +10%
TRI Cliff’s Dagger
DP: 3
Damage Reduction: 3
Item Effects
TRI Steel Dagger
DP: 3
Damage Reduction: 3
Item Effects
Cliff’s Sub-Weapon Benefits:
- Pre-enhanced to +15, saving silver
- Easier to enhance than other weapons
- Decent base AP
Cliff’s Sub-Weapon Disadvantages:
- The green tier Steel Dagger is 1 AP better than Cliff’s
- When fighting Monsters, the Kutum Dagger will kill faster despite having a lower base AP, because of its high AP against monsters item effect
- Because Cliff’s is a gold tier weapon, repairing max durability costs the same as Boss weapons and gear, using 1 Memory Fragment to repair 1 durability (5 durability if used with Artisan’s Memory)
- Can’t be enhanced to PEN
- Would be a waste to spend silver and materials enhancing Cliff’s Sub-Weapons past +15 when the green tier is better even without an Ultimate Weapon Stone attached
Conclusion:
In my opinion, the gold tier Cliff’s Sub-Weapons would be a waste of silver to enhance past +15 as the green tier Steel Dagger has better stats and would be cheaper to repair max durability. The Steel Dagger can also be sold on the MP when you are ready to step up to the Kutum or Nouver Sub-Weapons.
Cliff’s Awakening Weapon Comparison
Are Cliff’s Weapons all that great? Let’s look at a comparison of TRI Awakening Weapons, the boss favorite, Dandelion Aad Sphera, and the blue tier, Alloria Aad Sphera.
TRI Dandelion Aad Sphera
AP: 106-115
Item Effects
TRI Cliff’s Aad Sphera
Item Effects
TRI Alloria Aad Sphera
Item Effects
Cliff’s Awakening Weapon Benefits:
- Pre-enhanced to +15, saving silver
- Easier to enhance than other weapons
- AP is comparable to the blue tier Alloria with an item effect better suited to PVE
Cliff’s Awakening Weapon Disadvantages:
- TRI Dande is clearly the winner in AP and item effect
- Because Cliff’s is a gold tier weapon, repairing max durability costs the same as Boss weapons and gear, using 1 Memory Fragment to repair 1 durability (5 durability if used with Artisan’s Memory)
- Can’t be enhanced to PEN
- Could be a waste to spend silver and materials enhancing Cliff’s Awakening Weapon past DUO when the boss Dande is so much stronger
Conclusion:
Although the blue tier Awakening weapons are very similar to Cliff’s Awakening weapons, Cliff’s is better suited for PVE because of its item effect. It is a good stepping stone to the boss Dandelion. I would reccommend using caution in deciding to enhance Cliff’s Awakening weapons past Duo/Tri as recovering max durability on gold tier weapons is more costly and defeats the main advantage of using a Cliff’s weapon in the first place.

Speak to Miguel Aries, the blacksmith at the Western Guard Camp, to exchange PRI – TET enhanced Cliff’s Weapons for gold bars. A TRI enhanced Cliff’s will exchange for 300 million silver, which could go towards acquiring a better weapon.

Are seasoned characters able to use cliffs weapons or would they need to wait for season end or graduation?
I did it on a season character but you must have access to Olvia Servers. Just complete [Boss] Witch-Hunting” or “Looking for Adventurers” Main Quests in Calpheon then go to western guard camp and talk to Cliff captain and take the 3 weapon boxes quests.
