Epheria Carrack: Balance and Epheria Carrack: Advance were introduced in the The Great Expedition Update on 23 October 2019. Both ships are upgrades from Epheria Caravel and require an Epheria Caravel to craft.

Carracks are a great improvement over the Caravel, with almost every ship stat increased to create the best Barter ships available.

Upgrade from Caravel to Carrack Balance or Advance:

  • 5000+ more Weight Limit (69% increase in LT)
  • 70 more Cabins for Sailors
  • 5 to 10 more Inventory
  • 7 additional cannons on each side (14 total)
  • 5% improvement in Turn/Brake
  • 10% to 15% greater Speed
  • More Durability and Rations

Carrack Advance & Balance: Best in Barter Ships

The upgrade ships from Epheria Caravel are NOT considered best for battle and manuverability.

They are considered best for Barter and Trade.

When you compare them to the battle ship upgrade line starting with Epheria Frigate, you can see why.

These Barter ships have more Inventory and Weight Limit, but less Damage, Speed, Acceleration, Turn, and Brake.

Note that the Carracks all have 100 Cabin space to add more Sailors, which allows you to strengthen areas you feel are too weak in ship stats like Speed, Acceleration, Turn, and Brake.

The Best Carrack: Advance or Balance?

Epheria Carrack: Advance - BDO   VSEpheria Carrack: Balance - BDO

Which Carrack Should I Choose?

Both Carracks are almost identical. For me, I like the Advance better because of its superior Barter capacity. The 1.5k extra Weight Limit and 5 more Inventory is too good to pass up. I do like sailing faster, but meh. I’m willing to give up the 5% extra Speed and 1 second faster cannon that Balance would give me.

Players like to make fun of the Carrack Balance and many consider it a potato ship, because it attempts at being a middle ground between a battle and barter ship. Most players start with Carrack Advance. But Balance is still an awesome barter ship that takes time and effort to obtain. Potato ship? Then give me free potato ships please!

Carrack Materials Comparison

The materials for the Carrack Advance and Carrack Balance are almost the same.

The only difference is in the amount of three different materials.

Carrack Balance requires 8 more Tear of the Ocean. This item is probably the most rare. You can obtain 1 each day via a daily Young Sea Monster quest so this may extend your goal by 8 days. Tear of the Ocean can also be obtained rarely via fishing around a small island within Papua Crinea. (I got about 1 every 2 to 3 days with 24 hour afk fishing.) Tear of the Ocean costs 500 Crow Coin each.

Carrack Advance requires 8 less Tear of the Ocean, but 5 more of Brilliant Rock Salt Ingot and 5 more Brilliant Pearl Shard. These mats cost 500 Crow Coin each. There is no repeatable quest for Brilliant mats, but Brilliant mats are common during Ship Material Refresh after you reach a Barter Count of 1k.

You can exchange one type of Brilliant mat for another, but it will cost you 200 Crow Coins at Ravinia.

So you sea my tear? 🙁

Even at 5k Barter Count, Tear of the Ocean is rare.
