BDO Otter Merchants are underwater NPC vendors that sell ship upgrade materials.
Otter Merchants only stay for about 5 minutes. Bring your quickest Movement Speed gear and Underwater Breathing items. *Whew!*
Otter Shop items cost Iridescent Coral, which is obtained from exchange, after gathering certain coral underwater.
Otter Merchant Highlights:
- Otter Merchants spawn on an underwater shelf inside Oquilla’s Eye (RNG about every hour)
- Gather Iridescent Coral Pieces with a hoe, then exchange Iridescent Coral Pieces for Iridescent Coral at Otter Merchants
- Each Otter Merchant sells the same items, but with different pricing
- Girio <Otter Merchant> has the cheapest pricing and best exchange rates
Otter Merchant Appeared Nearby!
A message, “An Otter Merchant appeared nearby!” will be displayed, when an Otter Merchant spawns.
Otter Merchant Spawn Time – Ack!
Otter Merchants have an RNG chance to spawn. According to player reports, the spawn window is only 10 minutes after 1 hour of the last spawn. With these chances, you may want to use the Sailing Discord’s “otter-spawn-na” channel. This channel is for players to report the last Otter Merchant spawn time they saw. It doesn’t look like the channel is too popular yet, but maybe you will start a trend and help your fellow Barterer out! Visit Sailing Discord.

Spotted Coral Image & Location for Iridescent Coral Piece
Spotted Coral, shown in the image below, is a large round coral that’s has green and purple circles on it. It gives Iridescent Coral Piece.
The gather point of Spotted Coral can be a bit tricky to find. Try coming at it from the top down, instead of the sides.
The image here shows one Spotted Coral location that is at the southern coast of Oquilla’s Eye. (You can also see one Trumpet Coral nearby.)
Trumpet Coral Image & Location
Trumpet Coral, shown in the image below, is a tall coral that is colored sea green. It gives Iridescent Coral Piece.
The gather bubble of Trumpet Coral is easy to find from the side.
The image here shows one Trumpet Coral location that is at the southern coast of Oquilla’s Eye. (Next to some Spotted Coral.)
NOTE: It has recently been reported by a player that these corals do not drop Iridescent Coral at 100% chance. I’m unsure of the drop rate atm.
Otter Merchant Items
Otter Merchants sell the same three items, just at different prices. The most rare item you can obtain is the Tear of the Ocean.
All of the items at the Otter Merchant Shop are also available via Oquilla’s Eye Treasure Chests. This method would be highly RNG and cost Silver Keys.
Seaweed Stalk
Otter Merchants sell 1x Seaweed Stalk for 20 to 80 Iridescent Coral.
Seaweed Stalk is a ship material used in crafting:
- Epheria Cog
- Epheria Caravel
- Black Dragon Figurehead
- Stratus Wind Sail
Seaweed Stalk is normally obtained via exchanging [Level 4] Barter items, Ravinia’s Crow Coin Shop (100 Crow Coins) and Oquilla’s Eye Daily Sailing Quests:

[Daily] Small Repayment from the Old Moon Guild I (exchange 150 Oquilla Coins to Herrad Romsen)
Ruddy Manganese Nodule
Otter Merchants sell 1x Ruddy Manganese Nodule for 60 to 120 Iredescent Coral.

[Daily] For the Young Otter Merchants (Bring Curio an Iridescent Coral Piece)
[Daily] Small Repayment from the Old Moon Guild I (exchange 150 Oquilla Coins to Herrad Romsen)
Tear of the Ocean
Otter Merchants sell 1x Tear of the Ocean for 180 to 240 Iridescent Coral.

there is false info on this page as the % is not 100% from trumpet coral!!!!
Hello 🙂 Guess I always had good luck then! Thanks for reporting your experience. I have updated the guide.
Some that appear to be Trumpet Corals are actually labelled as Dead Coral
Some are in disguise? Tricky!
I can never find the location for Otter Merchant despite the fact that I see the notification a lot. Any help would be highly appreciated.
Here is a pic of the spawn location, I just missed the otter actually being there 🙁
Thanks for the screenshot!
