Blackstar Armor arrived in Black Desert Online in a patch on June 24th, 2020.

The greatest advantage of Blackstar Armor is its Monster Damage Reduction and superior DP.

Blackstar Armor is a red grade armor that fills the chest slot only.

Quest for one Blackstar Armor per level 56+ character.

Blackstar armor is one of 4 Blackstar Defense Gear. (Blackstar Helmet, Blackstar Gloves, Blackstar Shoes)

The steps to obtain Blackstar Armor are very similar to obtaining the Blackstar Weapon.

Blackstar Armor can be used to obtain the BIS chest piece, Fallen God’s Armor.

Blackstar defense gear can be upgraded to Obsidian Blackstar.

Blackstar Armor Pros & Cons

 

Blackstar Armor Benefits:

  • 12 more Monster Damage Reduction (does NOT apply in PVP)
  • 17 more Monster Damage Reduction with Blackstar set effect (does NOT apply in PVP)
  • highest possible HP with Blackstar set effect
  • no need for thousands of Caphras Stones
  • greater enhancment chance success in early levels of enhancement
  • 10% boost to resistance against monster attacks

Blackstar Armor Disadvantages:

  • Monster Damage Reduction doesn’t apply in PVP
  • more difficulty in later levels of enhancement than yellow boss gear
  • no safe enhancement via Caphras Stones

Blackstar’s strength is its higher HP, Monster Damage Reduction, and resistance against monster attacks. This, coupled with close stats to Dim Tree and Red Nose, makes Blackstar Armor a good choice for PVE.

 

Blackstar in PVP?
What about PVP with Blackstar Armor? Unfortunately, the additional DR and resistance to monsters isn’t going to help against hostile players. However, look at the HP and PVP stats! It is still an excellent chest piece and comparable to Dim Tree and Red Nose.

Blackstar Armor Requirements

NOTE: You can start earlier than Level 56 by completing the Calpheon and Mediah main story quests. You can also try to obtain boss gear via Night Vendor, Central Market, etc.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

You must have Specter’s Energy and Remnant of the Rift when you talk to Martha Kiyen in Northern Wheat Plantation. If you do not have these in your inventory, she will not give you the Blackstar quest options for the armor, awakened weapon, or sub weapon.

Quick Step by Step Walk-through

  1. Complete Calpheon then Mediah main quest lines.
  2. Obtain Knowledge “The Three Legendary Blacksmiths of Mediah”
  3. Obtain rare drop, Remnants of the Rift.
  4. Obtain rare drop, Specter's EnergySpecter’s Energy from many high level grinding spots.
  5. Make sure Remnants of the Rift and Specter’s Energy are in your inventory.
  6. Right click Remnants of the Rift. Take Remnants of the Rift to Martha Kiyen at the Northern Wheat Plantation. (NE of Calpheon City) Choose the correct Blackstar gear quest. Blackstar Armor quest line starts with [Blackstar Armor] Remnants of the Rift.
  7. You will obtain Eye of Anguish during the quest line.
  8. Process > Heat 3 boss awakening/sub/main weapons or armors to create 3x Concentrated Boss’s Aura – do not attempt this until after you have the quest. (Better safe than sorry.)
  9. Process (L) > Manufacture: Eye of Anguish and Concentrated Boss’s Aura x3
  10. Give the manufactured item, Eye of Desolation, to the brazier at Star’s End and defeat the summoned boss, “Incarnation of Corruption”. (Option to do an easier version of the boss for those with low AP.)

The 3 boss gear you have to melt down, are transformed into Concentrated Boss Aura x3.

Only the base gear with +0 enhancements works.

Blackstar Armor Enhancement

Enhancement for Blackstar Armor is similar to the Blackstar Weapon. It has the same Enhancement Chance Sucess rates for later tiers and requires a special item called Mass of Pure Magic for the higher tiers.

Major Update: Blackstar Armor

  • Added a new piece of defense gear, Blackstar Armor.
  • Added quests about crafting Blackstar Armor.
    • The quests can only be completed once per character.
    • To accept the first quest of the series, you need to have the “Remnants of the Rift” item and the knowledge of “The Three Legendary Blacksmiths of Mediah.”
    • Remnants of the Rift drops at a low rate from Dark Rift bosses.
    • You can obtain the knowledge of “The Three Legendary Blacksmiths of Mediah” by obtaining and completing “The Three Blacksmiths” quest from Tulem, after you complete the renewed Mediah Main quests once you reach Lv. 56 or higher. If you have completed the quests but don’t have the knowledge, try talking to Tulem again.
    • During the quests, you will be able to choose between battling the boss at its full strength, or fighting a weakened version of the boss.
