Deve’s Encyclopedia: Shakatu Merchants Archive

BDO Deve’s Encyclopedia is part of the “Shakatu Merchants’ Archive” within the “Adventure Log Bookshelf”. Deve’s Adventure Log was added 13th November 2019 in Black Desert Online on the NA server.

6 Books in Deve’s Adventure Log require item collections to show to Deve. You get to keep the items.

Deve’s Encyclopedia Basic UI

The items that you have to collect are shown to Deve, the <Storage Keeper> in Altinova. You just have to have them in your inventory to show him. You get to keep all of the items.

Deve’s Encyclopedia Outfit

A head appearance outfit piece is a reward for finishing Volume 6.2 of Shakatu Merchants Deve’s Encyclopedia. This is the objective that requires you to show Deve a Calpheon Noble Dress or Suit.

After completing book 6, speak to Black Spirit to pick up the quest, Black Spirit’s Gift (Suspicious Crown).

After completing all 6 books, speak to Black Spirit to pick up the quest, Black Spirit’s Gift (Adorable Desert Pet).

This is where you can keep track of your Adventure Log quest progress for Deve’s Encyclopedia and other Adventure Logs.

Getting Ore from Nodes & Gathering

Iron and Copper Ore can be obtained by sending workers to nodes around Velia.

There are many cheap, beginner friendly nodes to obtain Iron and Copper Ore. (You will also obtain Powders, which you can use for Vol 1.2 later.)

Cheap Iron Ore Worker Nodes:

• Coastal Cave → Velia – 2 CP
• Coastal Cliff → Velia – 3 CP
• Pilgrim’s Haven → Sand Grain Bazaar – 4 CP
• Abandoned Iron Mine → Altinova – 4 CP
• Northern Heidel Quarry → Heidel – 5 CP

There are many more, but they get more expensive in CP cost.

Volume 1.3 → Collect Gold Bars

Nov 15: +1 HP

Collect Gold Bars (4 types).

Exchange silver at the <Storage Keeper>. Also available via questing.

Gold Ingot is another option and is made via Processing (L) → Heating Gold Ore, Gold Shards, or Alluvial Gold. Purchase Gold Ore/Shards/Ingots from the Marketplace.

Alluvial Gold is obtained from Processing (L) → Filtering water obtained inland by gathering with Empty Bottles from a Material Vendor.

Volume 1.4 → Collect Flowers

Dec 15: +1 LT

Collect flowers (7 types).

Flowers are normally easily obtained on the marketplace or with worker nodes.

Volume 2.1 → Collect Chairs

March 11: +1 HP

Collect chairs (5 types).

Many cities have a special <Furniture Dealer> that will sell a unique chair from that city for usually 500 to 600 Amity with that NPC and some Silver. For example:

Obtain Amity 501 for a Velian Chair

Handcrafted Chairs have to be crafted via a recipe and a worker in the city workshop.

Note that Pearl Chairs will not work. [Manor] Chairs will not count.

Peak ahead at the next two goals so you can buy beds and chandeliers also while in the cities.

Volume 2.2 → Collect Chandeliers

March 14: +1 HP

Collect 3 different types of Chandeliers. Purchase from Annabella Belucci, the <Candlestick Vendor> located in Calpheon City.

Collect beds (2 types).

• Marketplace: You may get lucky and find some on the marketplace… I wasn’t. 🙁
• Amity Vendors: Win Amity minigame to gain 1000 Amity with a furniture vendor NPC.
  • The Calpheon, Heidel, and Velia beds are fairly easy to obtain. Other location’s Amity is more difficult.
• Furniture Workshop: Handcrafted Bed are available via crafting with workers in a workshop.

Volume 3.1 → Collect Corals

June 20: +2 HP

Collect corals (3 types).

Base coral only. (Example, not Twilight Red Coral)

You can usually find these on the marketplace, but you can also gather them yourself with a hoe or obtain Fisherman’s Sack from sending a worker to an ocean fish node. The cheapest is Serca Island off of Port Epheria for 1 CP. Or if you’re interested in rare seafood cooking, Randis Island gives Octopus as well for 2 more CP.

How to Craft Corals

Gathering Corals with a Hoe

• Corals and Coral Pieces can be gathered with a hoe.
• Coral Pieces can be gathered on land at Protty Cave on Weita Island and on Oquilla Island. (See Sea Fan and Dead Coral.)
• Underwater Gathering of Coral:
  • You will need some underwater breathing and swimming gear for underwater coral gathering
  • Most widely used gear: Da-dum Da-dum diving suit set purchased from Pearl Shop.
  • Consumables like Hard-Boiled Shellfish.

Volume 3.2 → Collect Underwater Items

June 23: +2 HP

Collect things you need to go underwater (3 types).

Fogan Webfoot

Fogan Webfoot is a rare item that drops from Fogans in the watery swamps surrounding Glish Ruins.

Try to find the elite star mob named Swamp Fogan Warrior, who drops it every time.

Naga Webfoot

Naga Webfoot and Naga Commander’s Neck Ornament drop from Swamp Naga NE of Glish.

All Swamp Naga have a low chance to drop Naga Webfoot.

Hang onto the Naga Webfoot for Fughar’s Adventure Log (Vol 2.1).

Optional: Naga Commander’s Neck Ornament

Optionally, look for the larger mob called Swamp Naga Commander.

He drops the neck ornament, which you should keep for Fughar’s Adventure Log (Vol 2.1)

Volume 4.1 Traps

July 21: +1 HP

Collect 4 different items that can catch thieves.

Traps are crafted in a Siege Weapon Workshop in cities. Capturing Rope is purchased at any <Stable Keeper>.

NOTE: [Guild] traps DO NOT count!

Siege Weapon Workshop level of 2 is required to craft traps.

Recommended Siege Weapon Workshops:

• Heidel 7-2 2F – This one will probably be the cheapest in CP cost since you probably have already learned the prerequisite houses in order to obtain the lodging for Heidel workers.
• Heidel 1-4F

All of the trap recipes require Herbal Gunpowder.

Herbal Gunpowder is crafted from Insectivore Plant Powder, which is gathered with a hoe from Insectivore Plant located NW of Glish and in Hexe Sanctuary grinding spot.

Look for a short green plant with long, sharp teeth! 🙁 Many of these plants are hidden pretty well by evil devs inside bushes and are hard to find. See map below.

Requires Beginner 10 Gathering level and respawns after about 2 hours. Swap channels for more.

Silk Honey Grass is a common drop from gathering Silk Honey Grass or Wild Herbs with a hoe.

Energy Potions

Obtain Energy Potions by exchanging your own Energy with an NPC or you can buy them on the marketplace.

• Energy Potion (Small) → 50 energy cost (recover 10 energy)
• Energy Potion (Medium) → 100 energy cost (recover 20 energy)
• Energy Potion (Large) → 150 energy cost (recover 30 energy)
• Energy Potion (Extra Large) → 200 energy cost (recover 50 energy)

Energy Potion Exchange NPC

You can perform “Energy Exchange” at certain NPCs.

For example, Alustin, the alchemist in various cities, will allow you to make Energy Potions by giving him energy in exchange.

Click on the “Exchange” button to dump your energy into a potion. This allows you to store energy for later use during Life Skill events. Or you can earn silver by selling the potions in the marketplace.

Energy Exchange Costs:

Small to Large Energy Potions exchange in a 5 to 1 ratio, meaning you give 5 energy and store 1 energy in the bottle.

The Extra Large bottle has a slightly better ratio. Energy Potion (Extra Large) is the best value if you’re converting your own energy, because it stores 1 energy and costs 4 energy.

Memory Fragments from Boss Scrolls

Memory Fragments are obtained by collecting 5 boss scroll pieces and placing them in a + pattern. This creates a 7 day scroll that summons 2 to 3 bosses, depending upon which scroll you use.

Boss scroll pieces can be consistently and actively obtained via grinding mobs or fishing. Mobs in Southern Calpheon, Mediah, and Valencia level 42+ drop them. However, the drop rates can be dismal, depending upon what you hunt. But, there are some monster zones that are well known for dropping boss scroll pieces.

Volume 6.2 → Fancy Piece of Clothing

June 16: +1 HP

Collect a fancy piece of clothing (1 type).

Buy a Calpheon Noble outfit at the marketplace or craft one.

Crafting yourself requires 400 amity with Merv, in Calpheon City. Craft in any level 2 Costume Mill. There are two in Calpheon City. (Merchant Lane 2-5, 1F or Noble Quarter 1-6)
