Tuvala Armor, Weapons, and Accessories are acquired by Season characters only, but may be worn by normal characters after Season graduation. After Naru gear, Tuvala is the second set of gear available to Season Characters.
- PEN (V) Naru armor and weapons can by converted to PRI (I) Tuvala automatically in the enhancing window via the Black Spirit.
- Tuvala enhancement materials (Time-filled Black Stones & failstacks) are easily obtainable by Season Characters.
Tuvala Gear Benefits:
- PEN Tuvala gear is nearly identical to yellow grade TET Boss gear (Ex: Kzarka and Dim Tree).
- You can convert PEN Tuvala weapons/armor into TET boss weapons/armor after graduation and continue enhancing your TET boss gear.
- New TET boss gear is account bound.
- PEN Tuvala accessories can NOT be converted to Boss accessories.
- Details in our Guaranteed PEN Boss gear guide.
- Tuvala Gear is easier to enhance than boss gear. It has better enhancement success chances than normal gear. PRI – TRI enhancements are 100% guaranteed.
- Season Pass and Main questline rewards plenty of Tuval enhancement materials.
- One full set of Tuvala gear (11 pieces) is automatically converted after graduation to be useable on Normal servers by all your characters.
How to Obtain Tuvala Gear
- Following the Main questline or Simplified questline will reward Naru gear and Beginner Black Stones to enhance the Naru gear.
- Exchange PEN Naru: PEN Naru armor/weapons can be exchanged for PRI Tuvala gear. (Excludes Awakening Weapon and accessories.)
- After successfully enhancing to PEN (V) Naru gear, the enhancement window will allow you to convert Naru into PRI (I) Tuvala gear.
- Press the CONVERT button to convert the Naru gear into Tuvala.
- Completing the Awakening/Succession questline after Level 56 will reward a PRI (I) Tuvala Awakening Weapon.
- Exchange Time-filled Black Stones: Time-filled Black Stones can be exchanged to Blacksmith NPCs for extra Tuvala Gear and Accessories.
- 2 Time-filled Black Stones = 1 Tuvala Weapon or Armor
- 10 Time-filled Black Stones = 1 Tuvala Accessory
Beginner Tips:
The first set of gear a character obtains is the blue grade Naru gear. Naru is VERY easy to enhance. You will receive 1000’s of Beginner Black Stones, so do NOT waste failstacks or crons enhancing Naru gear.
With Agris Essence, each time an enhancment fails +1 is added to the Agris meter. Once the Agris meter is full, the next enhancement is 100% guaranteed.
I never bother with enhancing Naru accessories as they do NOT convert to Tuvala accessories. Enhanced Naru armor and weapons give plenty of stats and power for the lower level zones. Tuvala gear, accessories and Time-filled Black Stones are soon available anyway.
Following the Main questline and completing Season Pass objectives reward enough materials to enhance your Naru and Tuvala gear.
Extra Tuvala Gear and Accessories can be obtained by exchanging Time-filled Black Stones to Blacksmith NPCs.
REMEMBER and plan accordingly:
- Season Pass rewards 1 PEN Tuvala Ring at Lvl. 58 and 1 PEN Tuvala Earring at Lvl. 60.
- Season Pass rewards 1 Frozen Tides Black Stone which guarantees enhancement from TET to PEN on 1 Tuvala armor or weapon.
- Season Pass rewards 1 Boiling Tides Black Stone which guarantees enhancement from TET to PEN on 1 Tuvala accessory.
These Season Pass rewards help ease the frustration of gear and accessory enhancing, but don’t forget about them. I can’t tell you how many times I enhanced all my gear to PEN and forgot about the Tides Black Stone!
Only 1 full set of Tuvala gear is transferred to Normal servers once your character graduates. If you have 2+ pieces of the same gear at graduation, only the highest enhanced piece will transfer. All remaing Season enhancement materials – Time-filled Black Stones and Tides Black Stones – are deleted after Season graduation if they haven’t been used or exchanged.
Tuvala Enhancement Materials
Right click a Time-filled Blackstone to begin enhancing Tuvala armor and weapons.
Tuvala Gear is cheaper and easier to enhance than normal gear. (But more difficult than Naru gear.)
- Higher than normal enhancement success chances.
- Lower failstacks than normal for high level enhancements attempts.
- PRI, DUO, & TRI enhancements on Armors, Weapons, and Accessories are Guaranteed to Succeed!
- Enhancement materials are plentiful and given as rewards in the Season Pass. Time-filled Black Stones also drop from mobs, gathering, weekly Season quest, and zone objectives.
- Extra Time-Filled Black Stones can be exchanged for other goodies like Failstacks, Valks’ Cry, or even Item Collection Increase scrolls at NPC Fughar.
- Use extra Black Stones to build more failstacks for later use.
Repair Max Durability of Tuvala Gear:
- 1 Time-filled Black Stone recovers 5 Max Durability. (50 with Artisan’s Memory)
Please see these guides for more details on how to obtain Season Enhancement Materials:

PEN Tuvala gear is very similar to TET boss gear, but it’s much easier to enhance – one of the many perks of Season Servers. Time-filled Black Stones are plentiful, 30-35% enhancement chance is easy to hit with the free failstacks from Season Pass, and Crons aren’t necessary unless you’re frustrated and/or low on Black Stones.
Enhancement Materials:
Time-filled Black Stones are used to enhance Tuvala Gear. They are also used to repair Max Durability. Max Durability is reduced on guaranteed enhancements and for each enhancement failure.
– 1 Time-filled Black Stone repairs 5 Max Durability.
– 1 Time-filled Black Stone + 1 Artisan’s Memory repairs 25 Max Durability.
If you’re desperate or have already graduated your Season character, Memory Fragments may be used to repair Max Durability.
– 1 Memory Fragment repairs 2 Max Durability.
– 1 Memory Fragment + 1 Artisan’s Memory repairs 10 Max Durability.
Crons may be used for PEN (V) enhancment to safeguard your TET gear from downgrading to TRI.
Tuvala Gear Enhancement Strategy
PRI (I) > TRI (III)
After YOLOing your PEN (V) Naru gear and converting it to PRI (I) Tuvala, you can enhance up to TRI (III) without failstacks or crons. Max Durability is reduced by 20 each for DUO and TRI enhancements.
TRI (III) > TET (IV)
Since failed Tuvala Armor and Weapons enhancements do not downgrade lower than TRI (III) enhancement level, you don’t need to use Crons when you go for TET (IV) as it will never downgrade to DUO (II). A +40 failstack will increase your enhancement chance from the base 7% to 35%. In my experience, TET usually lands within three attempts.
Season Pass rewards Advice of Valks (+40) x8. Very convenient!
Max Durability is reduced by 10 for each failed enhancement.
TET (IV) > PEN (V)
A +60 failstack will increase your enhancement chance from the base 5% to 35%. In my experience, PEN usually lands within three attempts. Level decreases to TRI (III) on failed PEN enhancement if Crons are not used. Max Durability is reduced by 10 for each failed enhancement.
Do you feel lucky? If not, use Crons. Compared to Boss gear, the Crons needed for safeguarding PEN Tuvala attempts is low.
Crons are for the weak? After 8 failed enhancements, the Agris Essence fills to guaranteed enhancement.
Remember the Frozen Tides Black Stone from the Season Pass reward? Each Tides Black Stone equals 1 guaranteed TET to PEN enhancement.
Agris Essence
If you decide to forgo Crons, Agris Essence builds +1 for every enhancement failure. Once the Agris meter is full, the next enhancement is guaranteed. Failing the TET > PEN enhancement 8x will fill the Agris meter so the next enhancement is guaranteed, and that mediocre failstack you painstakingly built is preserved for a future attempt.
Storing Failstacks
To store failstacks for later enhancement attempts, you can transfer them to Naderr’s Band or purchase Blacksmith’s Secret Books from the Blacksmith.
Naderr’s Band is opened by completing a questline at level 58. You can also open it by purchasing Naderr’s Parchment from the Pearl Shop for 1100 Pearls. Each parchment opens up 1 storage slot on the band.
Tuvala Accessories Enhancement
Enhancement Level | Base Enhancement Chance | Enhancement Material | Optional Crons | Enhancement Failure | Agris Essence |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
PRI (I) | 100% success guaranteed | 2 identical base accessories | 0 | 100% success guaranteed | 0 |
PRI (I) > DUO (II) | 100% success guaranteed | 1 PRI accessory and 1 identical base accessory | 0 | 100% success guaranteed | 0 |
DUO (II) > TRI (III) | 100% success guaranteed | 1 DUO accessory and 1 identical base accessory | 0 | 100% success guaranteed | 0 |
TRI (III) > TET (IV) | 35% | 1 TRI accessory and 1 identical base accessory | 60 | Both TRI accessory and base accessory are destroyed unless Crons are used. When Crons are used, level may decrease to DUO. | 6 |
TET (IV) > PEN (V) | 28% | 1 TET accessory and 1 identical base accessory | 120 | Both TET accessory and base accessory are destroyed unless Crons are used. When Crons are used, level may decrease to TRI. | 7 |
Tuvala accessories are easier to enhance than normal accessories, but still challenging since enhancement failure on accessories means starting over from scratch. Thankfully, the Season Pass rewards 2 PEN accessories and 1 Boiling Tides Black Stone which guarantees 1 TET to PEN enhancement.
Tuvala Accessory Enhancement Materials:
Tuvala accessories are enhanced by using an identical base accessory. For example: When enhancing a TRI Tuvala Ring, use a base Tuvala Ring as the enhancement material.
Exchange Time-filled Black Stones for base Tuvala accessories at the Blacksmith or Armor Vendor. Exchange 10 Time-filled Black Stones for 1 Tuvala Accessory.
Accessories do not have Max Durability loss to repair later as both the accessory and the base material are destroyed on enhancement failure.
If Crons are used, the enhanced accesory will not be destroyed, but it may still downgrade a level. The base material is always destroyed.

Tuvala Accessory Enhancement Strategy
PRI (I) > TRI (III)
Enhancement chance is 100% guaranteed up to TRI (III) without failstacks or crons.
TRI (III) > TET (IV)
Although the base enhancement success chance is 35%, I still destroyed so many TRI accessories that I became frustrated and used Crons. Still, it kept failing enhancement and downgrading. Finally I just slapped a 40 failstack on it and used Crons. Success! Finally.
Pro enhancers will probably cringe at this recommendation and think it’s a waste of failstacks and crons, especially for Tuvala.
– 10 Failstack = 42% success chance
– 30 Failstack = 56% success chance
– 40 Failstack = 63% success chance
TET (IV) > PEN (V)
Base enhancement success chance is 28%. That is way too low unless you feel particulary lucky. Since 60 something success chance worked so well for TRI > TET, I used the same strategy for TET > PEN and used a 60 Failstack with Crons.
– 10 Failstack = 33.6% success chance
– 30 Failstack = 44.8% success chance
– 40 Failstack = 50.4% success chance
– 60 Failstack = 61.6% success chance
Agris Essence
If you decide to forgo Crons, Agris Essence builds +1 for every enhancement failure. Once the Agris meter is full, the next enhancement is guaranteed. Failing the TET > PEN enhancement 7x will fill the Agris meter so the next enhancement is guaranteed, and the failstack you painstakingly built is preserved for a future attempt.
Storing Failstacks
To store failstacks for later enhancement attempts, you can transfer them to Naderr’s Band or purchase Blacksmith’s Secret Book from the Blacksmith.
Naderr’s Band is opened by completing a questline at level 58. You can also open it by purchasing Naderr’s Parchment from the Pearl Shop for 1100 Pearls. Each parchment opens up 1 storage slot on the band.
Personal Experience – the Negative:
Tuvala accessory enhancement really frustrated me. I’m not a new player but I consider myself a newb when it comes to enhancing. Continuously failing enhancement and having to return to the Blacksmith NPC to buy more base material took too much time. Then, buying too much base material required processing back into Time-filled Black Stones. Processing is soooooo slooooow.
A lot of black stones were consumbed, a lot of Crons disappeared, and a lot of failstacks were burned in the making of these Tuvala accessories. There may also have been some cringing, groaning, and teeth-grinding.
Personal Experience – the Positive:
Enhancing Tuvala gear was simple, quick, and relatively easy.
Enhancement materials are easy to get as a Season character. I had plenty of Time-filled Black Stones and failstacks from leveling and Season Pass. I also had plenty of Crons because of the Heidel Ball event giveaways.
I learned to be much more careful when enhancing accessories. I tried to YOLO it but ending up wanting to stab the Blacksmith in the eye with my earing.
I’m more convinced than every that enhancing is not for me. I’ll continue buying enhanced accessories and gear off the Market – which means big bucks for some crazy – I mean gutsy – enhancers.
Tragedies and successes draw people together – we like to commisserate, cry, and laugh over shared experiences.
Hope for the Future
If Time-filled Black Stones could be used as the enhancement material, it would greatly simplify the Tuvala accessory enhancement process. This change would be especially helpful for players that are new to the game or new to enhancing. It may not be authentic to normal accessory enhancing but I don’t think anyone cares. I really hope that BDO will have mercy on newbs everywhere.

Tuvala Failstack NOTE:
These Tuvala Failstack Charts are an estimate of what the majority of players use. Personally, I like to use higher stacks because I’m that good. 🙂 Other players take the more risky gambler approach to enhancement!!!
…no thrills or sudden deaths for me please… along with my sweet predictable pie. 🙂
Tuvala Gear Comparison
The PEN Tuvala Gear set is a nice gear set, but doesn’t quite reach the stats (251/253 AP) of softcap boss gear, with TET armor/weapons and TRI accessories.
Tuvala Gear is still a decent gear set and better than any blue grade gear set you could put together. For, example: Liverto with blue grade armors/accessories.
Tuvala is a nice armor set for adventurers who are brand new to BDO or veterans who have had a tough time obtaining enhanced boss gear. A fully enhanced Tuvala Gear set will allow you to venture into even some Elvia monster zones.
Tuvala Awakening Weapon Comparison
Are Tuvala Awakening Weapons all that great? Let’s look at a comparison of some of our more popular TET Awakening Weapons, including the new-player only Cliff’s Weapon.
TET Dandelion Aad SpheraAP: 114-123
Item Effects:
● Extra Damage to All Species +10
TET Tuvala Aad Sphera
AP: 106-115
Item Effects:
● Additional Damage All Species +9
[CP] Nesser Aad Sphera
AP: 110-119
Item Effects:
● Additional Damage All Species +9
TET Alloria Aad Sphera
AP: 104-113
Item Effects:
● Additional Damage to Humans +12
TET Cliff’s Aad Sphera
AP: 104-113
Item Effects:
● Extra AP against Monsters +10
Tuvala Awakening Weapon Benefits:
- Generous supplies of special black stones specific to Tuvala Enhancement.
- Higher enhancement chance numbers than normal weapons (For TET Enhancement it’s 7% vs Cliff’s 2.9% and Dande’s/blue-grade 2%)
- AP is slightly better than the blue-grade Alloria and Cliff’s with an item effect much better suited to both PVE and PVP.
- Nearly the same powerful all species damage buff as the Dandelion.
- Can be enhanced all the way to PEN, unlike Cliff’s weapon.
- Option to trade a PEN Tuvala Awakening for a TET Dande.
Tuvala Awakening Weapon Disadvantages:
- TET Dande is clearly the winner in AP and item effect (having an average of 8 more AP for TET)
- TET level of Tuvala is weaker than the Nesser Awakening Weapon unless it reaches PEN enhancement.
Conclusion:
Tuvala Awakening weapon is a powerful weapon! Not as good as a boss weapon, but it’s better than the other competitors! It is also better suited to both PVE and PVP because of its item effect. It is a good stepping stone to the boss Dandelion.

Can you please add back the recommended failstack chart, which was available before the update? Many thanks.
Now where did that run off to… Found it! It’s updated to the new changes. Thanks for spotting that. 🙂 Crazy changes to the game and guides lately! I think it will help newbies be not so confused though. 🙂
