Tuvala Gear was introduced to BDO, with a patch on June 22, 2020. A full set fills armor, weapon, and accessory slots: 11 different gear pieces in total.
Tuvala gear is only wearable by Season Characters, until it is converted after the character graduates from Season Servers. The enhancement materials for Tuvala drop from monsters on Season Servers.
Tuvala Gear Benefits:
- you can trade PEN weapon/armor for TET boss weapon/armor.
- Boss gear will be account bound
- Boss Accessories not included
- Details in our Guaranteed PEN Boss gear guide.
- Tuvala Gear shows easier enhancement chances than normal gear. TET and PEN is the biggest challenge.
- Tuvala Gear after Season Server ends:
- Tuvala gear is converted by the game after Season Server ends, unless it is manually converted by you in early graduation.
- Right click the conversion gems to convert a full Tuvala gear set to be family-bound.
- Converted Tuvala gear can be used by all of your Alts.

PEN Tuvala Enhancement
Tuvala enhancement has had its challenges in the past. This Season will show improved Enhancment Chance numbers as well as cheaper costs.
Season Characters get plentiful enhancement goodies, including free failstacks via Valks.
My Tuvala Enhancment Experience (Season 3)
During a past Season (3), TET to PEN was difficult for me. My PEN Tuvala main weapon didn’t hit until I had a failstack of 90 and many down-grades and over 400 Time-Filled Black Stones later…. uhg. I started at a 70 failstack.
After my main weapon, I chose to PEN my subweapon, which was even more difficult. It finally landed after reaching a 102 failstack from 70. It felt extremely painful… I’m still trying to recover!
It’s much more pleasant when you have Crons! My awakening weapon PEN landed at 70 Failstacks, but I used up hundreds of Crons. (It succeeded after 2 fails.)

My Tuvala Enhancment Experience (Season 4)
- Tuvala Weapon TRI to TET: 2 fails with 72 Failstack (Cost: 225 Crons)
- Tuvala Sub-Weapon TRI to TET: 2 fails with 72 Failstack (Cost: 225 Crons)
- Tuvala Shoes TRI to TET: 4 fails with 72 Failstack: (Cost: 375 Crons)
- Tuvala Helmet TRI to TET: 0 fails with 72 Failstack: (Cost: 75 Crons)
- Tuvala Helmet TET to PEN: 1 fail with 92 Failstack: (Cost: 330 Crons)
TOTAL Cron Stone Cost: 1230
(2,460,000,000 silver cost if Crons are purchased at the vendor.)
My Tuvala Enhancment Experience (Season 5)
Season 5 was brutal, they promised they improved the ease of enhancing Tuvala, but I got excluded!!!
- Tuvala Weapon TRI to TET: 4 fails with 52 Failstack (Cost: 375 Crons)
- Tuvala Weapon TET to PEN: 5 fails with 72 Failstack (Cost: 990 Crons)
- Tuvala Armor TRI to TET: 8 fails with 52 Failstack (Cost: 600 Crons)
- Tuvala Helmet TRI to TET: 0 fails with 52 Failstack (Cost: 75 Crons)
- Tuvala Shoes TRI to TET: 0 fails with 52 Failstack (Cost: 75 Crons)
- Tuvala Gloves TRI to TET: 6 fails with 52 Failstack (Cost: 450 Crons)
- Tuvala Awakening TRI to TET: 0 fails with 52 Failstack (Cost: 85 Crons)
- Tuvala Sub-Weapon TRI to TET: 0 fails with 52 Failstack (Cost: 75 Crons)
- Tuvala Armor + Gloves + Shoes PRI to DUO: 2 fails with 12 Failstack (Cost: 0 Crons)
- Tuvala Helmet PRI to DUO: 1 fail with 12 Failstack (Cost: 0 Crons)
- Tuvala Helmet DUO to TRI: 0 fails with 37 Failstack (Cost: 0 Crons)
- Tuvala Armor DUO to TRI: 1 fail with 37 Failstack (Cost: 0 Crons)
- From these results I felt like there was no improvement from the previous Season.
- …ouch….
TOTAL Cron Stone Cost: 2500
(5,300,000,000 silver cost if Crons are purchased at the NPC. 50% off if obtained via destorying a Pearl Outfit. Cron Stone Guide)
My Tuvala Enhancment Experience (Season 6)
Season 6 is going much better. Haven’t tried any PEN level yet though.
TRI to TET Tuvala:
Had a close to 42 failstack for each one.
- armor: 75 Crons
- gloves: 2 fails 225 Crons
- helmet: 75 Crons
- shoes: 75 Crons
- awakening weapon: 85 Crons
- main weapon: 75 Crons
- sub-weapon: 5 fails 450 Crons
- Some weird RNG here.
- but overall, much better luck than last season.
TOTAL Cron Stone Cost: 1060
(2,120,000,000 silver cost if Crons are purchased at the NPC. 50% off if obtained via destorying a Pearl Outfit. Cron Stone Guide)

Tuvala Upgrade via Narchillan
You can upgrade Tuvala even more, by melting Narchillan gear and obtaining a Combatant Stone.
See our Narchillan Guide for details.
Think carefully about doing this though, since you don’t need this for Guaranteed PEN.
Tuvala Gear Comparison
The PEN Tuvala Gear set is a nice gear set, but doesn’t quite reach the stats (251/253 AP) of softcap boss gear, with TET armor/weapons and TRI accessories.
Tuvala Gear is still a decent gear set and better than any blue grade gear set you could put together. For, example: Liverto with blue grade armors/accessories.
Tuvala is a nice armor set for adventurers who are brand new to BDO or veterans who have had a tough time obtaining enhanced boss gear. A fully enhanced Tuvala Gear set should be more than enough for the majority of the higher tier grinding spots.
Tuvala Awakening Weapon Comparison
Are Tuvala Awakening Weapons all that great? Let’s look at a comparison of some of our more popular TET Awakening Weapons, including the new-player only Cliff’s Weapon.
TET Dandelion Aad Sphera
AP: 114-123
Item Effects
TET Cliff’s Aad Sphera
Item Effects
TET Alloria Aad Sphera
Item Effects
TET Tuvala Aad Sphera
Item Effects
Nesser Aad Sphera
Item Effects
Tuvala Awakening Weapon Benefits:
- Generous supplies of special black stones specific to Tuvala Enhancement.
- higher enhancement chance numbers than normal weapons (For TET Enhancement it’s 7% vs Cliff’s 2.9% and Dande’s/blue-grade 2%)
- AP is slightly better than the blue-grade Alloria and Cliff’s with an item effect much better suited to both PVE and PVP
- nearly the same powerful all species damage buff as the Dandelion
- Can be enhanced all the way to PEN, unlike Cliff’s weapon
- option to trade a PEN Tuvala Awakening for a TET Dande
Tuvala Awakening Weapon Disadvantages:
- TET Dande is clearly the winner in AP and item effect (having an average of 8 more AP for TET)
- Could be a waste to spend silver and materials enhancing Tuvala Awakening Weapon to PEN, unless you can use a TET Dande that is bound to you.
- lacks in comparison to the Nesser Awakening Weapon unless it reaches PEN enhancement
Conclusion:
Tuvala Awakening weapon is a powerful weapon! Not as good as a boss weapon, but it’s better than the other competitors! It is also better suited to both PVE and PVP because of its item effect. It is a good stepping stone to the boss Dandelion.
I would recommend using caution in deciding which of your enhancement materials to throw at your Tuvala awakening weapon, unless you plan to use it.

“Tuvala Gear can be cheaper and potentially easier to enhance than normal gear.”
The enhancement chances are exactly the same as a one-tier lower boss piece, not “somewhat easier”.
“The PEN Tuvala Gear set is a nice gear set, but doesn’t quite reach the stats (251/253 AP) of softcap boss gear“
Again, it is exactly the same as one-tier lower boss gear, with tri accessories, so EXACTY softcap. Oh, you are comparing it to Nouver set, not Kutum… what is stopping me from swapping the sub-weapon?
“Tuvala Gear can be cheaper and potentially easier to enhance than normal gear.”
The enhancement chances are exactly the same as a one-tier lower boss piece, not “somewhat easier”.
While that is true you can get the stones to upgrade and the ores to buy new pieces for repair way faster than other stuff you need to enhance normal boss gear. So even with the same chances you still have an easier time enhancing tuvala.
money.
this guide is meant for people with a life that hates the silly grinding and numbing rng.
Tuvala easier to enhance my *** i only have one tet and try to tap it to pen. i failed 9 times with a 90 stack and crons. overall i dumped over a billion in crons into this ****** shoes and they still aren’t pen.
mad lol go back to runescape
70 failstack and crons and I have mainhand, offhand and awak on pen.
whats you chance with 90fs? and you get a lot of crons from season quests.
unless you use crons even for duo -> tri you have really bad luck
I just tried to get it to tet, if it failed used the refined blackstones to get it to tri again and tried again
Just came back to BDO and really loving the Tuvala gear lol. Played for quite a bit earlier tho, blew my boss gears back and forth so Tuvala isn’t so bad. I’ve made like a few 100+ stacks so far which I’m saving, the few in between I actually used it to TET my old boss gear again lol.
All in all it’s just much easier to grind out mats for tuvala and I honestly recommend new players to go for a full set of PEN tuvala because man back up, back up, back up.
Just found out you can not belt enchantment (pri) ( duo) ect armor into tulva ores. Only the base. Please update
why would u spend 5b of crons on tuvala gear. its so easy and pretty fun. i madeit all pen and grinded like 3hrs. and i didnt evn use most of the stkksthey gave me i have like all 7 60s and 6 40s from qeust left i used stacks i made myself from the blue stones naru and purple stones on tuvala . should try it u just fail like a pri-tet naru to start the stack at 5-8 then hit ur tuvala.
Hello! 🙂 You go get em! That’s a good attitude! I guess for me it’s only fun when it upgrades safely and not downgrades. Haha! The Crons make it more fun for me. But it sounds like you have more fun without!
Lol, I just don’t understand that attitude. Enhancing Tuvala is just so fricking easy. Just play the game for 3 weeks, do the weekly guest, and do some rift echoes and you have so many materials you can enhance like 2 full PEN Tuvala sets with 0 crons and build some FS for other gear.
Are you trying to convince me or everyone else? LOL! I’m probably an odd ball. 🙂 See the player poll here: https://grumpygreen.cricket/cron/ (only 14 votes out of 209 for players who use Cron Stones on Tuvala! But Crons good. Downgrade bad! 🙂
